Tampa taxpayers ask

How much does a consultation with a Tampa IRS lawyer cost?

Nothing. The initial consultation is free. Bring the IRS notice and you will get a straight answer about where you stand, what your deadlines are, and what it takes to fix it.

Can the IRS take my home in Florida?

Florida’s homestead exemption is one of the strongest in the country, and IRS home seizures are rare and require special approval. But a federal tax lien still attaches to your home and follows it through a sale. The sooner the underlying debt is resolved, the safer your property is.

The IRS levied my bank account. Is the money gone?

Not yet. The bank holds levied funds for 21 days before sending them to the IRS. Within that window, the levy can often be released by getting a resolution in place or asserting exemptions for protected funds like Social Security. It is a same-day emergency — call immediately.

How long can the IRS collect a tax debt?

Generally ten years from the date of assessment — the Collection Statute Expiration Date, or CSED. Certain events pause the clock, like bankruptcy, an offer in compromise, or a collection due process hearing. Knowing your CSED dates is often the difference between paying in full and paying nothing.

Do I really need a tax attorney instead of handling it myself?

For a small balance you can pay, maybe not. But anything involving a levy, a lien, a Revenue Officer, an audit, payroll taxes, or a balance you cannot pay is a situation where what you say to the IRS goes on the record. Attorney-client privilege and 32 years of dealing with the Tampa IRS office change the conversation.
